JEFF BUREY
Norwalk High School
The 1967 Norwalk High graduate played three years of varsity golf and as a senior was captain and the team’s No. 1 golfer. The former Shorehaven caddie became a Class A PGA Club Professional in 1976 and one year later was hired as a head golf professional at Pinehurst. He later became the head pro at three other clubs and has been teaching golf for over 50 years, mostly in Kansas. In 2022 he became just the 49th member inducted to the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame in the categories of both ‘Club Professional’ and ‘Contributor to the Game.’ He is also a member of the Midwest PGA Section Hall of Fame.

Brien McMahon
High School
A two-time first-team All-FCIAC goalie for the Brien McMahon soccer team who capped off his high school career by being named first-team All-State and All-City MVP as a senior after leading the Senators to the 1986 FCIAC championship. Established a new school record with 21 career shutouts, including eight as a junior and nine more his final season. He was a three-time letter winner in college, earning All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference first-team honors at East Stroudsburg University. Then played professionally for the Connecticut Wolves in the US Soccer League before embarking on a coaching career at the high school, collegiate and semi-professional levels.
DENNIS MITCHELL
Central Catholic
High School
A lifetime Norwalker who’s been involved the local sports community in some capacity for over five decades. That includes being a four-year starter and senior captain of the Central Catholic baseball team and leading scorer for the Cavaliers’ soccer team. Began playing youth baseball in the Cranbury League and was captain of its first Kinlock Tournament championship all-star team in 1976. Also made the Junior and Senior Babe Ruth all-star teams and later played several summers in the Twilight League and Connecticut Men’s Senior Baseball League till he was 45. Continues to be a longtime supporter and sponsor of Norwalk sports and athletes.
KATE MORTELL
Norwalk High School
A three-time high school All-American swimmer who helped lead the Norwalk High girls swim team to its first FCIAC championship in 1977 and a year later the Bears' first state crown. As a freshman she won the State Open championship in the 100 butterfly in 59.1 seconds, becoming the first girl in Connecticut high school swim history to break the one minute mark. That was also the seventh best time in the country. Also part of the NHS State Open winning 200 medley relay team which posted the fifth best time nationally. Received a full scholarship to the University of Miami where she received 16 NCAA All-American awards.
DEBBIE ROSS

Norwalk High School
The two-time city scoring champion, who passed away in 2025, led the 1981 FCIAC and state champion Norwalk High girls basketball team with a 19.4 average and finished with 967 career points, fourth all-time in city history. She was the leading scorer in all four of the Bears’ state-tournament wins, including 26 points on 10-for-14 shooting (along with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals) in the Class LL title win to complete a 24-1 season and secure the program’s first state crown. Named the All-City co-MVP as both a junior and senior as NHS went a combined 45-3.
KYLE SEABURG
Norwalk High School
Longtime Norwalk High girls field hockey coach who is completing his 33rd season with the Lady Bears this fall. The very first male head field hockey coach in the state entered the 2026 season with 260 victories and a .619 winning percentage, while leading NHS to 26 state tournament appearances and 15 FCIAC playoff berths. His 2017 team won the FCIAC East Division championship and reached the Class L state semifinals. A two-time Class L Coach of the Year and the 2011 FCIAC C-of-Y, he is a member of both the FCIAC Hall of Fame and Connecticut Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
MISSY SEYMOUR
Norwalk High School
The three-sport standout was as one of the city’s best all-around female athletes during her era as she helped lead the Lady Bears to the first-ever FCIAC championship in girls basketball in 1975 as well as division titles in field hockey and softball. Continued her career at Quinnipiac College where she was named MVP of the first women’s varsity basketball team while as senior captain was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, recipient of the top defensive award and another MVP honor. Also a member of the school’s inaugural women’s softball team. Inducted into the Quinnipiac Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998
FLOYD THOMPSON
Brien McMahon
High School
One of Norwalk’s all-time best running backs who scored 16 touchdowns for Brien McMahon in the fall of 1974 while finishing with an even 100 points which set a new school record and was the second highest total in city history. The senior standout also rushed for 1,163 yards, another school record, while averaging over six yards per carry. He was named the All-City MVP while also earning first-team All-FCIAC honors and All-NY Daily News Fairfield County. His skillset that season led the Senators to a 9-1 record, which at the time was the best in BMHS program history

MIKE ERRICO AWARD
A longtime popular fixture in the local sports community following his athletic career at Central Catholic, where he played football, was a member of the track team, and later became an assistant coach with the Cavaliers’ baseball team. “Rolo” also coached in the local Babe Ruth baseball program and with the Norwalk American Legion team. In addition, he played softball for three decades and was a member of the Partners Café city championship team in 1997. He eventually became a certified softball umpire who served as president of the Norwalk Area Umpires as well as the Connecticut state director for the National Softball Association.
